Meet The Adult Man Who Lives His Life As A Domesticated Dog

We all have hobbies and while some may be more unusual than others, many would argue that they’re still valid. But what if your hobby revolved around dressing up as man’s best friend in the form of a spotty Dalmatian?

Well as it turns out, there is a whole community of people who enjoy assuming a canine persona. Wearing custom-made costumes, they live life on all fours bound by a collar.

One of these daring and brazen canine impersonators is 32-year-old Tom Peters, who made an appearance on the British daytime TV show, This Morning. While on the show, Peters who goes by the name of ‘Spot’, talked about his peculiar penchant for dressing like a puppy and also acting the part.

He claims that his dog costume helps him to assume the persona of a pup, something he is totally committed to.

As Spot he tries to, as authentically as possible, live his life as a cute, not-so-little pup. He does this by sleeping in a cage, walking on fours, and eating dog treats from a bowl.

It’s a far cry from his life outside of the dog costume as he works as a lighting and theater technician.

He appeared on the show so that he could spread awareness for his rather unique lifestyle and so that he could address some of the misconceptions that people may have about those who assume alternative identities.

“People think of it as seedy and that no one should see it,” Tom said. “But we’re not there to cause mischief, we’re there to have fun and literally be treated like a puppy.”

Tom then went on to insist that “it’s not a sexual thing. It is a lifestyle, it’s just escapism. To get away from money and the hectic lifestyle we have.”

However, he did suggest that it could be a “catalyst” and “lead on” to other things. “Because you relax and unwind, you could start from being a puppy and lead onto something in the bedroom,” he added.

And guess what – like any other domesticated dog, he has a human companion in the form of his ex-fiance Rachel Watson.

While Rachel confessed that the couple called off the engagement back in 2008 because of Tom’s bizarre lifestyle, she insisted that they are “best friends”. She then went on to say that they are closer now than they were when they were in a relationship.

She also admitted that the documentary, The Secret Life of the Human Pups, in which Tom featured helped her to understand a lot more about Tom and why he and others like him do what they do.

Well, for most people in the world, I think it will take more than a TV documentary for them to be able to truly comprehend a hobby that for your average man and woman would be pretty unthinkable.

But then again, in the words of Spot the dog, “We do roleplay as a child, so why can’t we do it as an adult?” Why not indeed, Spot, why not indeed?

I suppose if dressing up and pretending to be a puppy brings Tom joy and a sense of purpose then who are we to judge? Besides, there are plenty of things people will do out of their undying love for dogs. Things that for most of us dog lovers, might have us questioning just how dedicated we are to our own pooches compared to true dog fanatics.

For instance, have you heard about Instagram user topherbrophy? He dedicates his Instagram account to pictures of him and his dog who insist on dressing exactly the same. If this pet/owner relationship is anything to go by, dogs are capable of being more than just man’s best friend, in fact, they’re practically our twins.
