02 Oct Meet The 3’8″ Blogger Who Is Single-Handedly Changing The Way We View Fashion
At 5’9″, I’m quite tall for a woman. Where I live, it’s actually the average height of a male. I’ve lived most of my life as a tall person, and now that I’m well into my twenties, I have very little recollection of it was like to be little.
I can’t imagine being born with a disorder which dictated my height. But there are many people out there with height-related disorders – some which stunt growth and others which cause people to grow at an exceptionally fast rate.
28-year-old fashion blogger Doris Jeong was born with “unknown skeletal dysplasia” otherwise known as dwarfism. She was diagnosed with the disorder when she was just four years old. However, neither she or her parents ever let it hold her back.
“Growing up with dwarfism, it was really interesting because not only do I have dwarfism I’m also Korean so it’s kind of like a double minority. The Asian community don’t really like to talk about stuff so my dwarfism was never really addressed. My parents helped me with my dwarfism by not treating me any different.
The fashion blogger was born in South Korea, but she and her parents moved to the Pacific Northwest when she was six months old. She describes the home in which she grew up, as a “traditional and typical” Korean American household, and praises her parents for being liberal and accepting.
“I never experienced the scary Asian parents, they weren’t crazy strict and they didn’t expect less or different from me. I don’t know if it’s because [my parents] are Asian but they didn’t really expect anything less than the best from me.”
At 3’8″, the fashion blogger is the height of a small child, and it has always been very difficult for her to find clothing suitable for adults her age.
