McDonald’s And South Carolina Police Make Sure This Homeless Man Does Not Eat

Homelessness is one of the most devastating epidemics sweeping across the world. In the US alone, approximately 1.5 million people live on the streets, and this number has started to increase for the first time in seven years.

Regardless of how these individuals came to be on streets, it’s difficult for anybody with a heart and moral compass not to feel empathy for your fellow man in need. But despite the fact homelessness is a huge issue that will take billions of dollars and many years to finally eradicate, there are small gestures each of us can do every day to make a hard life a little easier for somebody sleeping on the streets.

Many people can feel uncomfortable handing money directly to a homeless person, not knowing if it will be used in the best way, but you could, for example, buy that person lunch. No harm there, right?

Well, as it turns out yes. When this gentleman decided to invite a homeless man into McDonald’s for a meal, he never expected his good deed to become an issue for the South Carolina Police:

Watch as McDonald’s And South Carolina Police deny this homeless man his lunch:

The video was captured by a Yossi Gallo and originally uploaded to YouTube under the account ‘cbasswm’.

The video shows the gentleman repeated telling the staff of the Myrtle Beach branch of McDonald’s that they “suck”, after they called the police in order to have a homeless man removed from their restaurant.

The man behind the camera states that he willingly paid for the man’s lunch and that he was causing no trouble, but despite this, the officer claims the homeless gentleman was harassing people outside (although, he seemed pretty calm throughout the video) and that he was “trespassing”.

Now, it must be said that the officer as simply doing her job (and very well, at that), but literally, at one point she actually says, “I am the law” as if she’s Judge Dredd or something.

In yet another twist to the tale, the manager of the Myrtle Beach McDonald’s then asks the police officer to remove Gallo (who paid for the meals) for being “disorderly”, which she is forced to oblige.

Understandably annoyed due to the disservice of the staff, the man then kicks up a fuss and demands a refund for his meal, as he is not allowed to enjoy his burger inside the restaurant.

The video ends with both men being escorted out of the restaurant, under the watchful eye of the police officer. But undeterred by his encounter with the law, Gallo ushers the homeless gentleman over to his car and asks him to join him for some lunch elsewhere.

However, after the female officer was bashed online for carrying out her duties, Gallo has spoken out to The Sun News asking people to leave her alone, and that she was simply doing her job:

“I see all these thousands of comments that are very disgusting toward her and I don’t think it’s her problem. I don’t think she did anything wrong. She had a task, that’s what’s she’s there for, and I have nothing against her.”

Following the incident, Myrtle Beach police released the following statement about the incident:

“The police department is aware of a video involving a Myrtle Beach Police Officer that is circulating on Facebook. The video was recorded this morning at a McDonald’s restaurant that is located in the City of Myrtle Beach.

Officers were dispatched to the location after receiving a call, from an employee of the business, that a male was in the parking lot asking people for money. Upon arriving at the restaurant, an employee approached the officer and indicated the male was inside the establishment. The employee requested the officer issue a trespassing warning and asked that the person leave the premises. The officer advised the male of the request made by the business and issued the warning. A bystander, who was videotaping the incident was also trespassed from the location, at the request of the manager, for what management deemed as disorderly behavior.

Both individuals complied with the request of the business and left the premises.”

You can say what you want about “dress codes” or “regulations”, but anybody with any morals is able to tell who the good guy is in this video – and the world would be a better place if there were more people like Gallo around.
