18 Apr Man Receives His “Third Face” Following Revolutionary Transplant
Medical science has developed astronomically in recent years. Feats which would have been deemed impossible in the not so distant past are now being carried out on an almost daily basis, and now, for the first time ever, a man has received two face transplants.
Forty-three-year-old Jérôme Hamon was born with neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic mutation which left his original face severely disfigured. This is something which he lived with until 2010 when he received his first transplant, only for it to be rejected by his body in 2016.
Check out the video below to learn more about his incredible story:

Because of his illness, Jérôme’s first face was not only severely disfigured, it was covered in tumors that caused a number of complications.
The world’s first face transplant was carried out in France in 2005, which is where Jérôme is from.
Although his life appeared to change for the better when he got his first transplant in July 2010, things took a drastic turn for the worse when he caught a common cold later that year and was prescribed an antibiotic which was not compatible with his immunosuppressive treatment.
However, it was not until November 2016 that Jérôme’s face began to show signs of rejection. Then, in November last year, doctors had no option but to remove it completely because of necrosis.
