20 Jul Man ‘Lucky To Be Alive’ After Air Freshener Explodes Inside Car
Aerosol cans have a documented disastrous history, whether that be in the form of ozone depletion or their own hazardous flammability.
While aerosol cans have been changed since the 1970s to exclude chemicals that wreak havoc on the ozone, the high flammability of these products is still true as ever: a lesson that one man from Shrewsbury, England, has unfortunately had to learn the hard way. In an innocent quest to regain that new-car smell, he has ended up in the hospital after his air freshener exploded in his face.
The man, known only as Joe, was sitting in the parking lot of a pub called Two Henry’s when the aerosol exploded just moments after he sprayed it. The culprit behind the explosion? A naked flame intended to light Joe’s cigarette. The flame and the aerosol combined to create an immediate ignition, which left the car in a totaled state.
The images of the car in its aftermath are shocking, and certainly enough to make you think twice before spaying anything in an enclosed space again.
