05 Apr Man Kidnaps 17-Year-Old Girl Off The Street, But Then Mom And Daughter Chase Him Down

A nightmare scenario for anyone is being abducted. Epitomized in the 2008 movie Taken, the thought of being captured and held against your will by a stranger is enough to send a shiver down most people’s spines, especially if you happen to be a young woman.

Unfortunately, this nightmare almost became a reality for a 17-year-old Huston high school student on March 29. While walking to school on an otherwise ordinary day, a green pickup truck pulled up beside her, and a man jumped out of it and attempted to abduct her.

Recalling the terrifying incident, the unnamed student said, “I thought he was going to abduct me, then rape and murder me.”

However, this student’s life was saved when a woman named only as Cecilia drove by with her daughter. She noticed the 17-year-old struggling to break free from her would-be abductor’s grasp and stepped in, shouting for the student to get in their truck.

“She turned around and looked at us,” Cecilia’s daughter remembered.

The student subsequently broke free of the man’s grasp, but instead of driving to the nearest police station to report the incident, Cecilia did the unthinkable and began to chase the man in the green pickup truck so that he didn’t attempt to abduct another student.

The chase went on for a total of ten minutes and during the chase, Cecilia’s daughter called the cops to alert them to what was going on. After this time, Cecilia lost sight of the green pickup truck but felt like she was being led down a particular street.

That’s when she discovered that the would-be abductor had crashed the truck into a ditch. However, the man, later identified as Daniel Zapata, was not quick enough to get away from the determined mom and Cecilia blocked him from going anywhere with her vehicle.

In response to this, Zapata tried and failed to drive into Cecilia’s truck. It was then that he realized that she simply wasn’t going to move and tried to convince her into letting him go. Law enforcement then arrived on the scene and he was promptly arrested.

Zapata has now been charged with attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault, and a DUI.

“They were my angels at that moment,” the 17-year-old student said. “There was nobody else.”
