04 Jul London Airport Evacuated ‘as a Matter of Urgency’ after Fire Alarms Triggered
London Heathrow’s Terminal three has been evacuated today after reports of a fire alarm going off. Thousands of travelers were forced to leave the terminal, with many standing outside on the tarmac after being told not to board their flight. Heathrow Airport tweeted at 12:55pm: “T3 has been evacuated following a fire alarm. We are investigating this as a matter of urgency and will provide an update shortly.”
The fire alarms reportedly stopped after 1:00pm, but passengers were asked to remain outside the building, as only security personnel were allowed inside during the investigation. About 20 minutes after the investigation began, Heathrow declared the terminal safe and tweeted: “Our teams have investigated and there is no fire in T3 despite the alarm. Passengers will be directed back into the terminal shortly.”
