26 Jan LAPD Cop Violently Drags Teenager Off Train Because She “Wasn’t Sitting Correctly”

We still live in a world where people from ethnic minority backgrounds are unfairly targeted by the police.

In fact, stories of police officers fatally shooting young black men and boys are becoming disturbingly frequent. So it’s no surprise that in 2018 tensions between the police and ethnic minority communities are higher than ever.

There’s an argument to be made that when police officers target people from ethnic minority backgrounds, they are treated with more precaution and are handled far more aggressively than those who are not.

Now, an LAPD police officer was recently filmed dragging a young woman of Latin American origin off a train because she refused to take her feet off the seat. The incident stemmed from something seemingly innocent and quickly spiraled out of control.

The 10-minute video was captured by a bystander by the name of Brock Bryan and it has now been viewed over a million times on Facebook.

The incident took place on an LA subway and kicked off when 18-year-old Bethany Nava, got on the Metro Red Line Train and a police officer asked her to leave the train. The cop was enforcing the passenger code of conduct, which states that passengers cannot put their feet up on the seats.

The customer code of conduct specifically states that “placing feet or shoes on seats or furnishings” is considered disorderly, and that the most effective course of action to take in that circumstance would be to issue a warning and/or to remove the passenger from the train.

At the beginning of the video, which has now been seen over four million times, the officer can be heard asking the high school senior to vacate the train and gesturing for her to stand up.

The officer is then heard saying, “I already told you what to do and you didn’t. You disobeyed me. You’re getting off the train.” 

The cop then proceeded to pull Nava’s arm, prompting her to shout “I paid to be on this train” and “you’re pulling me off the train, I can’t get my stuff.” The cop continues to drag her ignoring the teenager’s pleas for him to “stop, let me go”.
