Forbes has just devoted its latest cover story to America’s women billionaires and perhaps it was a surprise to some people that none other than Kylie Jenner was the person featured on the front of the magazine.

Yes, Kylie Jenner is set to become the youngest self-made billionaire in history at just 20 years old. Her current net worth is $900 million, which is set to break the $1 billion mark this year. It turns out that the barely-out-of-her-teens billionaire has her cosmetics line, Kylie Cosmetics, to credit.

While Kylie does also model and is featured on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the cosmetics line makes up the majority of her earnings. Kylie’s a smart cookie, too, considering that she owns 100% of the company, which has earned $630 million in sales since it launched three years ago.

While Kylie Cosmetics includes all kinds of makeups, it’s probably most popular for its lip kits, which Kylie has very successfully promoted over social media. She even does her own makeup tutorials on YouTube and runs a second Instagram account for the line with over 16 million followers.

The internet is going crazy over the news, with some people asking that we finally put to rest the idea that the Kardashian family isn’t hardworking, but Forbes was quick to add in a caveat to the self-made credit.

While Kylie’s business is technically self-made, Forbes says we are now in “the era of extreme fame leverage”. Had Kylie not been Kim’s sister, would she be a billionaire? Likely not. After all, her celebrity status did help to sell the product, and it’s likely family money was put up to start the company.

How many 20-year-olds have the money or clout to start a successful business from scratch? Not many and plenty of folks on the internet are pointing out that fact, saying that Kim deserves some credit here for putting the Kardashian family on the map.

In fact, many people wondered if Kim was upset my Kylie’s billionaire status. After all, Forbes estimated Kim’s net worth at a much lower, albeit still impressive, $350 million. Social media commenters wondered if Kim would be jealous or try to direct attention away from her little sister.

After all, sibling rivalry is par for the course in families and a feud would certainly make for a good storyline on an upcoming episode of their reality show. One commenter even suggested Kim should post another nude photo to drum up some focus on her and steal the spotlight from her younger sister.

However, that wasn’t the case at all. It turned out that Kim was super supportive of her baby sister, reposting the cover of Forbes to her Twitter account not once but twice in honor of Kylie’s success.

Kim obviously took notice of the haters, though, as she retweeted a very appropriate response to anyone who thought the Kardashians weren’t self-made or hard workers. The tweet said the following:

“The Kardashian Jenner women are the smartest, hardest working women that I know. They are the first to start their work day before the sun rises and always the last ones to end it. Debate and hate all you want but their success and longevity is no accident.”

Commenters suggested that people love to hate the Kardashian family because they are modern entrepreneurs that we haven’t seen the likes of before. Like anything, innovation takes time to get used to and be accepted, but considering Kylie’s about to become a billionaire, we better get used to it fast.

If the Kardashians know anything, it’s that they are worth more together than apart, so this is one family that’s going to stick together and support one another. Plus, some credit should be given to Kylie for starting her own business.

Considering how much money the family she was born into has, she didn’t have to do anything with her life except become a socialite. Her personal ambitions are admirable, especially the fact that she owns the entirety of her company. She clearly has some good business sense.

To look at things a different way, Kylie’s options could be seen as limited considering how famous her family is. Could you imagine her as a chef? People would be clamoring into the kitchen to get a glimpse of her. Or how about if she was a tour guide? No one would be looking at the city!

Okay, okay. I’m not giving her sympathy. Nearly anyone would prefer to be rich, famous and beautiful in exchange for a little loss of privacy or anonymity. But considering her status, Kylie has certainly used her position to its full advantage.

Perhaps her business smarts are the reason why she’s eclipsed not just her other famous family members, but every other young person to become the youngest female billionaire in history. And for that, regardless of whether you love her or hate her, she deserves a round of applause.
