Kelly Clarkson Confesses To Spanking Her Kids, Leading To Backlash On Twitter

Although most parents would consider their kids a blessing, raising children is not without its struggles.

It is especially difficult to decide the right way to control your kids’ behavior when it ventures into unruly territories. And that’s because, in today’s world of multiple parenting styles, you will always be judged by the majority if you lean towards more physical forms of punishment.

Recently, Kelly Clarkson has been on the receiving end of this criticism regarding her supposedly outdated parenting methods.

American Idol star has always been open about the relationship she has with her three-year-old daughter River Rose and her one-year-old son Remington Alexander.

And Clarkson is constantly posting adorable pictures of her little ones on Instagram. Plus she willingly shares with the world anecdotes related to her style of parenting.

However, now she has been especially candid and has revealed that she spanks her kids. And this is in spite of the fact that experts on child development (including American Academy of Pediatrics) vehemently discourage spanking or “other physical punishments”.

In an interview with Radio.com, Clarkson explained her views on spanking her kids as a means of disciplining them. “I’m not above a spanking, which people aren’t necessarily into. And I don’t mean like hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking,” she said. “My parents spanked me, I did fine in life and I feel fine about it. But I do that as well, too.”

The ‘Breakaway’ singer also explained that when she does spank her daughter, it’s never totally out of the blue. “I warn her, I’m like, ‘Hi, I’m gonna spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now. Like, this is ridiculous.’”
