Quora is a fantastic online forum which allows people to ask questions, join in on discussions and share stories about their lives. Sometimes the discussion can enter into powerfully moving territories. This often happens when Quora users candidly open up about a very dark time in their lives.

In August 2017, a Quora user asked, “What is one moment in your life you thought could only happen in a movie?” As you can imagine, there were a range of different answers, but one clearly stood out from the rest…

Some of the answers ranged from the Quora users being insanely close to death to “surreal” instances in which Quora users encountered certain celebrities. However, the most remarkable story was told by a very brave man by the name of Kevin Walsh.

His story revolved around a phone call with a woman who would later become his wife! In that moment, this very phone was all he needed to save him from something dreadful, and gave him the strength and courage to completely turn his life around.

The story starts when Walsh was in his early teens. He beautifully recalls the moment he realized he had fallen in love for the first time;

“Once upon a time I was 13 at a summer camp and the prettiest girl I’d ever seen walked right up to me and said ‘black is a good color on you.’ No idea why. We chatted and became friends, exchanged AIM screen names (it was the time) and stayed in touch for a while.

We fell off each others’ radar some time in high school, but I can promise you that not a day went by that I didn’t think about that girl. Even now I’m not sure I can say why – something about her just stayed with me.”

Walsh’s story then took a dramatic turn – he shared with his fellow Quora users something that brought them to tears. When he was in high school, he became severely depressed. He felt his situation was so hopeless that he decided he no longer wanted to be alive. There was only one thing for it; as far as he was concerned, he’d have to take his own life…
