If Meghan Markle Falls Pregnant, She Won’t Be Allowed To Wear These Clothes

When former Suits actress, Meghan Markle married Prince Harry back in May, she was essentially agreeing for her life to change beyond all recognition. Yep, henceforth she would have to live her life according to a set of undeniably strict rules.

Since becoming the Duchess of Sussex, she has no longer been allowed to take selfies, sign autographs, eat garlic (erm, okay), be alone in public, vote in elections, cross her legs while sitting down, or show too much public affection towards her husband.

Okay, but there have actually been numerous occasions where Meghan blatantly broke royal protocol…

Like when she didn’t wear nude tights at her engagement photocall

“You never see a royal without their nude stockings. Meghan, from what I can see from the engagement photographs, it doesn’t look like she was wearing tights or stockings,” royal expert Victoria Arbiter told Insider. “I would say that’s really the only hard, steadfast rule in terms of what the Queen requires.”

When she wore her hair in a casual bun on a royal engagement

As a royal, your hair – well, your head in general – is supposed to look as classy and elegant as the rest of you. While the Queen often wears hats in public, Kate Middleton usually wears her hair down or goes for a well-coiffed updo held in place by a hair net. Meghan, on the other hand, went for a much more casual look when she and Prince Harry went to visit a radio station.

On a trip to Cardiff, Markle broke another royal rule by signing a 10-year-old girl’s autograph book

Royals aren’t allowed to sign autographs for security reasons. It’s basically to prevent their signatures from being copied by frauds. In spite of this rule, Meghan kindly signed 10-year-old Caitlin Clarke’s autograph book with a heart and smiley face.

Anyway, considering how traditional and old-fashioned the whole institution is, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that there are a whole bunch of clothing items that the newest royal is no longer allowed to wear.

Meghan is not permitted to wear either dark or colorful nail polish, any sort of pantsuit or anything that shows off her shoulders. What’s more, she will be expected to keep to this stringent dress code even when she is pregnant.

And although we have no reason to believe she is pregnant right now, it’s very likely that she and Harry are planning on having kids in the near future. So when Meghan is expecting a child, she will be expected to refrain from wearing anything “overly” revealing or non-traditional.

But it gets more specific than that because according to royal protocol, the Royal Family must always be in smart casual attire when out and about. And you know what that means? Absolutely no sweatpants.

Take a look at this sweet little video of Kate Middleton showing Meghan Markle how to curtsy to the Queen:

While ordinary pregnant women barely have any concern in the world as far as their outfits are concerned (okay, so they have to worry about fitting into their clothes), those in the Royal Family are forbidden from wearing stretchy maternity pants, leggings, and basically anything remotely comfortable.

Poor Meghan will have no choice but to squeeze her baby bump into a modest pair of pants, skirt or dress. Not immensely comfortable for someone who’s on the road to squeezing a human being out of her body!

Now she might be able to wear a casual pair of pants when she’s in the confines of her own home, but when she’s around anyone else in the Royal Family or at a public event that is strictly forbidden. At least she has her three houses to comfort her, right?

I wear sweatpants, leggings, and casual wear pretty much 100% of the time so it would be a total deal breaker for me, pregnant or not. Not that any eligible member of the Royal Family is knocking on my door…
