23 Nov Holly Willoughby Defends Jack Maynard After He Was Axed From ‘I’m A Celeb’ For Inappropriate Tweets
It has only been on our screens for a few days, but this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! is already threatening to fall to pieces. The first scandal occurred after three days when 22-year-old YouTuber, Jack Maynard, was sent packing.
This was reportedly the result of controversial tweets he sent as a teenager being unearthed. The tweets, sent between 2011 and 2013, included the N-word and homophobic slurs. However, it’s now emerged that he also sent inappropriate images to a female fan.
Despite this, there has been large-scale support for the vlogger, who is most famous for being singer Conor Maynard’s younger brother. The most high-profile defense came from ITV This Morning presenter, Holly Willoughby, who simply couldn’t “understand it.”
The 36-year-old presenter, who hosts The Morning alongside 55-year-old Phillip Schofield, was perplexed by the decision to axe the youngster from the show for a juvenile indiscretion.
“I don’t understand this,” she said. “We knew about these messages before we went in. He apologized – I don’t understand.”
Maynard’s early firing from the show could see him lose his £25,000 fee, which is the reportedly the smallest figure the show paid out this year. Meanwhile, boxer Amir Khan and father to the Boris Johnson, the British foreign secretary, Stanley Johnson were allegedly paid £250,000 for their commitment to the show, which films for three weeks in the Australian jungle.
Maynard departed from the show on Tuesday without even saying goodbye, or explaining the situation. Instead, it was left to hosts Ant and Dec to deliver the news that one of the show’s youngest stars would be leaving the jungle early.
“Due to circumstances outside camp Jack has had to withdraw from the show,” they said, their usual smiles replaced with a grave look.
