If you’ve never been pickpocketed at a festival, you can count yourself lucky. Everyone knows that with great tunes comes a plenitude of completely and utterly sozzled music fans, and with a plenitude of completely and utterly sozzled music fans comes an abundance of sticky fingers.

My own experience of being pickpocketed was fairly distressing. My fresh-faced college junior self had just started her year abroad in Italy and was eager to bask in the excitement of the Italia lifestyle. Heading down to the Venezia Carnevale, I was hungry for extravagant costumes, cheese-infused snacks and maybe even a forbidden romantic encounter with a masked stranger, if it was up for grabs. Unfortunately, my Carnevale ended with me slumped in a Vaporetto station at 1am, phoneless, penniless, and wondering how the hell I was going to get home. Not so dreamy.

From my brief stint of having my possessions stolen in a city I didn’t know, in a country where I couldn’t speak the language and could count how many people I knew on the fingers of one hand, I can vouch for how painful being your pocket picked is. That’s why I was over the moon when hilarious footage emerged of an alleged pickpocket getting a healthy dose of instant karma.
