Hero Paramedics Fulfil Terminally Ill Woman’s Final Dying Wish And Her Last Words Are Everything

Death is an inevitable and often frightening part of life. Whilst some people get no warning about when their mortal coil is about to come to an end, others have days – and sometimes longer – to tie up their affairs in this world.

This can often involve fulfilling extravagant bucket lists if there’s enough time, but for many people, their last requests are a lot simpler. Some just want to make peace with the world and enjoy the simple things in life a final time.

And for one woman in Australia, this meant going to the beach.

When I was in my late teens, I worked in a nursing home alongside people who were receiving palliative care. It showed me just how incredible medical staff are at keeping people comfortable and happy in their final days.

It also showed me how much the simplest of things can mean to people at the end of their lives. I’ll never forget how happy some of the residents were when I sneakily gave them an extra cake or biscuit with their tea.

Unfortunately, many people receiving palliative care are bedbound, and, as a result, granting even the simplest of wishes is difficult. But that’s when Queensland Ambulance Service stepped in to help the woman who wanted to go to the beach.

Australia’s famed for its incredible beaches, so it’s understandable why visiting the beach is a last request for some people. There’s something incredibly relaxing about watching the waves roll up upon the sore and smelling the salty sea air.
