Here’s the Amazing Reason This Image of a Nurse Breastfeeding a Baby Went Viral

News of selfless acts of kindness always offer a welcome relief from some of the darker reports that come up in the media from time to time. One wonderful story coming out of Jerusalem has touched many, especially because a particular image of a kind nurse doing this good deed has gone viral. The incident happened in Ein Kerem – a village with a population of around 2000 people in southwestern Jerusalem which is believed to be the birthplace of John the Baptist and attracts up to three million visitors a year, one-third of whom are pilgrims. The village is also the site of a branch of the Hadassah Medical Center – Israel’s sixth largest hospital complex. The Hadassah Medical Center was established in 1934 and runs two university hospitals at Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus – two areas in the southwestern and northeastern parts of Jerusalem respectively. Across these two branches, the medical center has 1,000 beds, 31 operating theaters and nine special intensive care units, and runs five schools of medical professions.

The Hadassah Medical Center has declared a mission to offer a “hand to all, without regard for race, religion or ethnic origin”. This ethos appears to have extended to its staff, including nurse Ula Ostrowkski-Zak who is at the center of the viral image warming hearts across the world. During her night shift, Ula came across a 9 month old baby boy who had been brought into the hospital after a car accident. The baby’s family had been involved in a head-on collision with a bus on Route 60 in the West Bank. The baby, who was slightly injured, cried for hours in the emergency room and refused a bottle, according to the report. The baby’s aunts then asked Ula to help them find someone to nurse him. What Ula did next has become a social media sensation.
