When Prince Harry first announced his engagement to American actress, Meghan Markle, the world saw it as something of a whirlwind romance given that they’d only been dating for 15 months.

However, when they tied the knot in front of a worldwide audience consisting of an estimated two billion people, it seemed as though the young couple had been destined to be together from the very beginning.

Of course, the day was a Royal spectacle bursting with pomp and pageantry, but it was also equally understated and incredibly informal in comparison to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.

It was clear that Prince Harry and Meghan, who are now to be known by their titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, had chosen to simplify their special day in favor of a more relaxed ceremony – one which incorporated their charitable personalities and desire to do things a little differently.

For example, Meghan arrived at St. George’s Chapel with her mother, Doria Ragland.

Traditionally, it is the bride’s father who escorts his daughter to the church. However, Meghan’s father was not present for the entirety of the day after a series of blunders saw him withdraw from the event.

As a result, Meghan walked herself part of the way down the aisle before she was met by Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, who then led her the rest of the way to the altar.
