Hearts Break Watching Chester Bennington’s Tribute At Chris Cornell’s Funeral After His Shock Suicide

Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington made the heartbreaking decision to take his own life on Thursday. The 41-year-old front man of the platinum-selling band committed suicide by hanging himself in his Palos Verdes home. The singer’s passing sent shockwaves through the music community. Not only was Chester one of the leading figures in the nu-metal genre, but he took his life on the day that would have been the late Chris Cornell’s birthday.

It’s well known that Bennington and fellow musician Chris Cornell enjoyed a close friendship. However, Cornell of Southgarden and Audioslave fame also committed suicide, in May of this year. The 20th July would have marked Chris Cornell’s 53rd year. Bennington was understandably heartbroken after Cornell’s death: he posted a tribute letter on Twitter and performed an emotional rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah at Cornell’s funeral. Certainly, those who are mourning the loss of this figure will find some solace today by revisiting the touching eulogies that Bennington left his late friend.
