Having been born and bred in England, I have never truly understood the hype that surrounds prom. It doesn’t matter how many times I watch Grease, High School Musical, American Pie or Footloose, I still can’t quite get my head around what all the fuss is about.

Surely there are less formal and more fun ways to celebrate graduating high school? You know, an event that doesn’t require a meringue gown and wilting corsage?

At least, that was what I thought until I learned of Morgan’s story…

The teen, from San Antonio, completely changed everything I thought I knew about the end-of-year extravaganza that is prom in one simple video clip which she uploaded to her Twitter page last week.

The clip, which has already been viewed more than 12 million times, is certainly one that encapsulates everything prom stands for.

The incredible footage captures the moment that Morgan walked for the first time in a year after a psychological condition left her without the ability to use her legs.

After undergoing an operation, Morgan was diagnosed with conversion disorder, a mental condition which causes those affected to feel as though they’re paralyzed or blind.

Over the course of the past year, the Texas teen has had to teach herself how to walk again – and her hard work paid off, for she was able to take some of her first steps on prom night.

“After not being able to walk with my own two legs for 10 months… I surprised my prom date with this,” the student captioned the viral clip.

Unsurprisingly, her date was very surprised by what he saw. His priceless reaction is what makes the adorable moment even more special.

Evidently, her date is a very special person himself, for his incredible reaction to Morgan’s tentative steps is certainly what helped motivate Morgan to put one foot in front of the other.

As if it couldn’t get any better for the teen, her friend tweeted to announce to her new-found fans that Morgan had been crowned prom queen.

It’s a heartwarming story that helps to prove the power of prom. For a cynical Brit like me, I now fully endorse the occasion!
