One of the most difficult things about being a parent of young children is coming to terms with the fact that they are incredibly vulnerable. And this isn’t helped by the fact that their adventurous selves are always climbing things, running around recklessly and playing with things that could potentially pose a risk to their physical wellbeing.

Kids get up to all sorts and it’s difficult and pretty much impossible, to always keep tabs on whatever they are doing.

And I’m sorry to say it, but it appears that it’s not just the more “obviously” dangerous activities that you as a parent have to be wary about your kids engaging in. Apparently, something as seemingly mundane and innocent as a child wearing a rubber band on their arm could have serious physical consequences.

It’s true – a little girl experienced the unthinkable when a rubber band began growing into the flesh of her arm. No one noticed it had been digging into her skin until it had become so attached to her flesh that it could only be removed with a surgical procedure.

The four-year-old, who has been identified only by the name, Le Le, was taken to hospital by her parents after they eventually noticed the red ring encircling her arm.

They told staff they had not realized that the initially benign-looking elastic band had become embedded in her right arm until after her flesh and skin had grown around it.
