23 Aug Gay Man Is Attacked By Homophobic Thugs, Then Three Unlikely Heroes Come To The Rescue
With the popularity of shows like RuPaul‘s Drag Race surging, it’s safe to say that the acceptance and admiration surrounding the art of drag is at an all-time high. These proud queens are sassy, entertaining and fierce, and they’re not afraid to spread the message that everybody should live their lives the way they want to.
In November 2015, through the smoke and disco lights of a gay club, I saw my first ever drag queen. She was wearing more make-up than all the Kardashians put together, and strutted through the crowd like she owned the place. It was love at first sight.
I bounded through the other club-goers for a selfie, but instead of taking one there and then, she took my hand and we walked over to a place with better lighting. She was a pro. The resulting picture was glorious. Some six months later, she lifted me up on stage to sing Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’.
Drag queens are the salt of the Earth. They’re funny, kind and fabulous, and their confidence is something that we can all aspire to. So when 31-year-old Australian Ivan Flinn’s night out took a dramatic turn for the worst in August 2017, he prayed for an angel to save him.
But it was three angels in padded bras and stilettos who came to the rescue.
