22 Mar Footage Shows Incredible Moment Two Ohio Police Officers Save A Choking Baby

Being a new parent and knowing that you have a kid to raise, love and mold is one of the most rewarding feelings you can possibly have. But being the mother or father of a defenseless little infant can also be challenging as their welfare is your highest priority.

Sometimes, through no fault of your own, you can find yourself having to fight to save your vulnerable baby’s life. This is exactly the situation that 26-year-old Tamika Pruitte found herself in when her baby girl suddenly began choking.

Body cam footage taken on Tuesday by a member of the Shaker Heights police has captured the incredible moment officers saved a two-month-old baby who was choking on milk.

At about 9 am, two of the officers from this Ohio police force, Ryan Sidders, and Alex Oklander approached the car which was parked right in the middle of a busy intersection on Lee Road in Shaker Heights.

According to Commander John Cole, they noticed that the driver, Tamika Pruitte, appeared to be in distress and decided to investigate further.

The footage begins as both Sidders and Oklander walk over to the sedan with both mother and baby inside. Oklander then pulls the baby out of her car seat. “She’s choking,” Sidders can be heard telling Oklander.

Oklander then decides to hold the baby face down while gently patting her on the back. As a result of the officer’s quick thinking, she begins to spit out the milk and regains composure.

Sidders then tells his partner that he “can hear air moving” and confirms to his partner that “she’s breathing”, after which he hands the now much calmer baby girl back to her mother.

Stories like these remind us how far we can go with a bit of quick thinking and compassion for others. Yes, Sidders and Oklander are both police officers, but hopefully, this will serve as a reminder that we should all be looking out to help those in distress.

After all, we would want others to do the same for us if we were in a difficult situation.
