20 Apr Footage Of Sushi Twitching On The Plate Goes Viral For Disturbing Reason
If you eat meat, you have to live up to the fact that it was once a live, breathing animal. While this isn’t a problem for the vast majority of people, some, like myself, chose to become vegetarians or vegans. However, there are some meat eaters who blissfully stick their heads in the sand.
Case in point, a man was shocked when the sushi he was about to eat started to wriggle on his plate. Naturally, he assumed that the fish was still alive and recorded the incident on Twitter where it quickly went viral, horrifying people around the world with what they were seeing.
Check out the video below to watch the wriggling sushi for yourself:

In the footage, other diners laughed as the man appeared to goad the live sushi, which had a little droplet of soy sauce on it. At the beginning of the video, the sushi is only moving slightly, but with the man’s provocation, it almost entirely stands up off of its bed of rice.
The piece of sushi in question contained a clam.
To get to the bottom of this bizarre footage, Mashable asked marine biologist Callum Roberts what was going on. Was the calm about to get eaten alive? Or was it simply dead and mimicking signs of life for another reason?
“Clams have very simple nervous systems, and rather than a brain have three sets of paired ganglia distributed through the body, which coordinate the activities of the animal,” he said. “Clearly, in this case, some of these are still intact and functional.”
So, to put it bluntly, this clam was very much still alive. Yikes!
