13 Apr Father Throws Six-Month-Old Daughter Off A Roof During Standoff With Police

The bond between a father and his daughter is like no other. From the moment a dad first holds his daughter, she becomes his little princess, and he vows to protect her from any harm that may come her way.

However, that wasn’t the case with one father in South Africa.

During an intense standoff with the police regarding the illegal placement of his makeshift home, the desperate father threw his six-month-old daughter off the roof and towards the sun-baked ground.

The incident arose when the South African Police Service ordered the demolishing of an illegal township that was made up of dozens of illegally built shacks.

Unbelievably, other protestors can be heard from the ground goading the father to “throw, throw, throw!”

The footage was captured near in Kwadwesi, near Port Elizabeth on South Africa’s eastern cape coast.

The father can be seen holding his daughter on top of the roof and warning the police negotiator to stay away. Then, after the officer attempts to snatch the child to safety, the dad flings his young daughter by the leg, hurtling to the ground below.

Then, for a few heart-stopping seconds, the baby falls to ground, but was fortunately caught by surrounding officers.

The South African Police Service were sent to the area to ensure the safety of the demolition team after the irate 150 protesters began rioting.

They threw bricks and closed off roads with burning tires.

As calm was being restored, the desperate father climbed onto the roof of his home with his child in his hands. He then threatened to throw her to her death if the demolishers did not leave the township.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge told local media:

“At about 10.40am a 38-year-old man climbed onto the roof of one of the structures and held a one-year-old girl in his hands. This was done to force the team not to demolish the structure.

Due to the dangerous threat to the safety of the child police set out a plan to rescue the little girl and arrest the male and one of our officers successfully caught the girl as she was flung.

The 38-year-old father has been charged with the attempted murder of his daughter and the case is being handled by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit”.

Captain Beetge also confirmed that the baby has been handed back to the 35-year-old mother and their case is being overseen by local social services to ensure the child is taken care of and kept safe.
