Father Sends Final Text to Daughter Who Turned Him and Aunt Over to Police

Most of us would turn someone over to the police if we witnessed a crime, and give all the information we could if it meant putting a criminal behind bars. But things get a little more complicated when the person you are giving up to the police is someone you know, and not just a stranger whose details you share with law enforcement.

What exactly would you do if the person who had committed an illegal deed was a colleague, a friend, or even family? It’s not such a black and white decision when the livelihood of your own flesh and blood is on the line. On one hand you want to uphold the law and live a life as a moral person, but on the other hand you may know that your relative is a good person at heart, who doesn’t deserve to lose years behind bars.

This was the predicament that Cora Patterson found herself in recently, after she realised two of her close family members had committed criminal acts. After seeing them in CCTV footage, Cora commented on Facebook, publicly letting the world know the identities of the assailants.

The 19-year-old girl realised that her father, Colin Patterson, and her aunt Janine Patterson, were responsible for the break-in and burglary of a retired woman in March. They had entered into Marlene Stott’s home, and stole a number of sentimental belongings. The possessions stolen included jewelry given to Stott by her parents before their death, for her 21st birthday.
