18 Jun Fans Think Meghan Markle Has Already Lost Her Accent Because Of This Video

Anyone who’s ever heard one of the Royals open their mouth knows that familiar posh English accent very well. It’s quite upper class and proper and makes for excellent impressions performed by comedians throughout the world.

But what about Meghan Markle? She’s now officially a Royal, the Dutchess of Sussex to be exact, and yet her Los Angeles American accent sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the family. However, there is now evidence to prove that she might be absorbing that posh English style already.

A video has emerged from Twitter user @elzeiny99 of Meghan chatting up the crowds in Chesire while on her royal tour with the Queen. From her chitchat about the weather and her outfit, it’s easy to hear that her American accent is fading into somewhat of an English one. Check it out below:

Even some of her word choices and turns of phrase are distinctly British. Perhaps it’s just a function of being surrounded by fellow Brits. I mean, there are only so many times you can say ‘vest’ and have no one understand quite what you mean before you switch to ‘waistcoat’.

Besides, Meghan is an actress and would be used to picking up on character traits. Not that she’s playing a character, but her new role as a member of the Royal Family would surely require her to change some of her speaking habits.

After all, we wouldn’t want to hear Meghan referring to a ‘garbageman’ when she should be using the Britsh, and may I add more polite sounding, ‘refuse collector’. Not to mention that ‘pants’ refer to underwear in the UK, and that an American ‘fanny pack’ sounds like something quite offensive in British English.

Not to mention, who wouldn’t want to wear a ‘dressing gown’ instead of a ‘bathrobe’, or a eat ‘aubergine’ instead of ‘eggplant.’ It all just sounds so much fancier, doesn’t it?

After all, when Madonna moved to London, her accent completely switched seemingly overnight. So if Meghan’s only picked up a few clips and phrases so far, I think it shouldn’t seem out of the ordinary. However, there may be more to the story than Meghan just having a good ear.

Allegedly, Meghan had been taking elocution lessons back in March ahead of her Royal wedding. This should come as no surprise seeing how many new traditions and customs must be learned to fit in with such a historically significant family.

A source revealed to Entertainment Tonight that “Meghan is on a crash course with a trusted coach used by the royals. First on the list is silver service – she must be able to tell a fish knife from her butter knife, know how to handle seafood, drink soup and so on.

“There’ll be no stone unturned as in less than 12 weeks all eyes will be on her – there is no room for error. Meghan’s American twang will be softened and toned down. But more essential is her switching to British terminology – she simply cannot be ‘taking out the trash’ and ‘wearing pants’,” the source added.

Well, there you have it. If the source is correct, then we should expect Meghan to be phasing in her  English accent in full force any day now. Let’s just hope she doesn’t forget her roots.
