25 Jun Everyone Is Saying The Same Thing About Meghan Markle’s Feet

It’s a pretty undeniable fact that being scrutinized by the media to an outrageous degree is part and parcel of A-list fame.

I mean, we’re not just talking about the standard intrusions associated with, such as finding out a who a certain celeb is dating and why their most high-profile relationship broke down seemingly out of the blue.

Bizarrely enough, it gets way more specific than that. And the bigger the name, the more intense the scrutiny.

So if you were to become, say, the latest member of the most renowned royal family on the planet, you’d have to prepare for an invasive few years, decades or however long you manage to stay in the public eye.

I am, of course, referring to Meghan Markle who, mere weeks after her wedding to Prince Harry, appears to be handling the increased media attention pretty well.

I mean, in the lead up to said wedding, the amount of attention she and her embarrassingly media-hungry estranged family members received went through the roof.

Some of the Duke of Sussex’s relatives even defiantly made their way to London despite not having received an invite to the ceremony.

Then, even more outrageously, there was the time her half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., “begged” Prince Harry to call off the wedding. Yes, the controversy seemed to have no end in sight.

But alas, Meghan did marry her prince in spite of the incessant drama that seemed to follow her around.

And since then, there has been very little drama to report. She seems to have been well-received by the other members of the family, she’s adapting as best she can to her new lifestyle and she’s even retained that stunning smile and incredible sense of humor.

Those of us who take a keen interest in all things royalty, can’t help but wonder how things are shaping up for Meghan, how she’s coping with royal protocol… oh and why her feet always seem like they’re drowning in a sea of, well, shoe (you mean you haven’t noticed?!)

It’s true – you’ll never see the 36-year-old former Suits star go for shoes which fit her perfectly.

In fact, she always opts for a pair that are far too big for her and spacious enough to fit someone at least a couple sizes bigger. Trust me, there is plenty of evidence.

But it wasn’t until the Duchess attended the Royal Ascot with Prince Harry that fans of the actress-turned-royal noticed the unusual footwear choice. She was pictured in a pair of sizable Balenciaga Leather Knife Pumps at the event.

Of course, it must be said that Meghan looked incredible in her stunning white Givenchy gown and chic monochrome hat.

But fans just couldn’t take their eyes off those huge heels, reportedly worth $900. They’re certainly not cheap so why would anyone purchase them if they weren’t the right size? I mean, there must be some be sort of explanation for it right?

Well, as it turns out, there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this seemingly questionable footwear choice.

Fashion expert Harriet Davey explained to Fabulous:

“Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they’re at an event or on the red carpet and it’s for one reason we can all relate to – to avoid blisters.

There’s nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we’ve all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up.

“The swelling can cause blisters and in the long run bunions – like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumoured to suffer with.

A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding like tissue or cotton wool, and this can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes.”

So there you have it guys: the reason for the larger shoes was entirely practical. The Royal Family planning every last detail down to a T – who’d have thought it?
