14 Dec Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Is “Seriously Considering” Running For President In 2020

When Donald Trump became the President of the United States in January of this year, many people questioned his eligibility. As a controversial businessman, they questioned exactly what qualifications the 71-year-old had to command the Oval Office.

People were so perplexed by his presidency that they began to recommend their favorite celebrities for the job. From Kanye West to Ben Affleck, there was a murmur that in 2020 the White House could see another famous face walking through the door.

However, nobody truly took these celebrities too seriously. After all, Kanye did demand that Mark Zuckerberg pay him $1 billion on Twitter because he was broke, and, in the same breath, revealed his interest in running for the presidency.

But when Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson hinted that he might run for the job, people listened.

“One day, and that day will come, I can impact the world through politics. The great news is that I am American, therefore I can become president. But don’t forget: I am G.I. Joe,” the 45-year-old professional wrestler turned actor told Moviefone.

So when the imposing star appeared on The Graham Norton Show this week to promote his latest movie, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, it was inevitable that he was going to be quizzed on his preparations for the 2020 presidential race.

“Talking of crowds cheering, the rumors are Dwayne Johnson, President 2020,” said Norton, with a quizzical look at the California-born star.  “Ah. Wow,” the clearly speechless father-of-two said, shaking his head.

“Here’s the problem, right,” Johnson began, “it’s been very flattering, right, that there’s been this really interesting uptick in public opinion wanting that to happen, but the problem is, this guy to my right [pointing to his Jumanji co-star Kevin Hart] will completely sabotage the campaign.”

Hart then used his comedic wit to spin the whole conversation into an elaborate joke. “I will take you down. I don’t want it to happen because it would make you that much better than me, and I just don’t want that to happen,” he said.

But before the Rock could finish his explanation, the other guests on the sofa chimed in to offer their support.

Previously, Johnson has been very open about his desire to be the next president. “It would be a great opportunity to help people, so it’s possible,” he told Vanity Fair. “This past election shows that anything can happen.”
