Do you remember your last day at school, or an old job? The urge to go wild and leave a lasting memory of yourself was hard to fight. From putting bubble bath in the water fountain, to leaving a hidden message on a colleague’s desk – it’s hard to resist.
Now imagine this: You are employed by Twitter and you have access to the most popular accounts in existence, from Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian, to Bill Gates and Donald Trump. Can you imagine the fun you could have?
It appears that one (we can assume, former) employee at Twitter did see the potential of his position, after the account for the 45th President of the United States was deactivated for 11 minutes.
Users were left perplexed as they tried to access the Commander-in-Chief’s account, only to receive the message “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!”. For 11 minutes the account was non-existent, leaving many users questioning the cause.
Had Twitter finally taken action against Trump for his controversial use of the social media platform? Or, had Trump shut his own account down? (Unlikely).
Twitter initially stated that the takedown, which occurred at 4pm Pacific Time (11pm GMT), was “due to human error by a Twitter employee”.
In a statement, released by Twitter they advised: “The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.”
However, as Twitter conspiracy theorists raced forward to claim foul play, Twitter revealed the truth…
