19 Mar Dash Cam Footage Shows The Heart-Stopping Moment The FIU Bridge Collapsed

On Thursday, tragedy struck as a large pedestrian bridge near Miami suddenly collapsed, causing several cars to be crushed underneath. The Florida International University bridge, as it was called, was still under construction, and several workers were on the structure at the moment of the collapse.

Six people lost their lives in the accident, and now crews are facing the task of clearing the 950 tons of steel, concrete and crushed cars that have been strewn across a busy Florida road. Officials now say the last victim has been removed from the wreckage and identified.

It is believed that no more bodies are expected to be found.

In what makes for very upsetting viewing, the harrowing moment when the bridge collapsed was captured on the dash cam of one of the witnesses. In the footage, which is posted below, several vehicles, including a school bus, are set to pass under the FIU bridge.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the bridge falls to the ground, crushing the vehicles that had been underneath it. Some onlookers immediately exit their own cars and rush to help any survivors, while others seem to be frozen in shock at the destruction that had just unfolded in front of them.

“Do I worry about the image of the university? Every breathing moment,” FIU’s president, Mark B. Rosenberg, said in an interview. “But the response that we’ve gotten from around the country has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s not the time now to be worried about our image.”

There has been no official word regarding the cause of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
