11 Jul Dad Writes Alternative School Report For His Autistic Daughter After Her Grades Left Her In Tears

As a parent, there is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing your child cry.

Whether it be your fault or not, it’s hard not to feel as though you could have done something to prevent it. It is this conscience that sees us jump through hoops to please our children.

It doesn’t matter how tough or strong you are, the hint of a tear in a child’s eye is enough to instill fear in your heart. If you need any evidence of that, look no further than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, a devoted father of three and world champion WWE superstar, who spares no expense emotionally and physically when it comes to his offspring.

He really is perfection, isn’t he?

Of course, not all parents have the same resources as a Hollywood star. But that doesn’t mean that their attempts at parenting are any less honorable.

One parent who perfectly demonstrates this is Shane Jackson, from Tasmania, Australia. The dad has become an icon in the parenting world after his young daughter was left in tears by her grades.

Sophie, who has autism, was left devastated when she received her school report card. Despite having tried extremely hard at school, the youngster hadn’t been able to achieve a grade higher than a ‘D’ – something which she was understandably upset by.

Her heartbreak was intensified by the fact that Sophie had seen similar results the previous year. In a desperate attempt to improve her results, Sophie spent the entire year attending three after-school tutoring sessions per week.

So, when report day arrived, Sophie was hopeful that she’d see an improvement.

When that wasn’t the case, Sophie couldn’t control her tears.

“She has been working so hard and we have seen some great out of school improvements,” Shane told The Huffington Post. “So we [Shane and his wife Fiona] and Sophie were really positive that there may have been some improvements.”

“Then Sophie received the report and she was just so disappointed because she had tried so hard and honestly thought that she may be at a higher level than last year,” the proud dad continued. “From our perspective, we know she had tried hard and were very comfortable with her effort, whatever the report said.”

But as Sophie’s disappointment intensified, Shane knew he needed to intervene.

That’s when he devised his genius plan.

“I thought I’d give a report of all the things that make Sophie unique and makes her, her,” explains Shane.

So, that’s just what he did.

Grabbing a piece of paper, he listed everything that Sophie excelled in – a lot of which cannot be evaluated by the education system.

Here is his revised report card…

“She loved it and has been so upbeat since I gave it to her, it has the effect I wanted,” said Shane.

Shane shared the story on Twitter, where it quickly went viral. Attracting more than 50,000 likes, the post reaching thousands of people around the globe. Everybody was – of course – very inspired by the story, especially those who also struggle with learning difficulties.

But, the story didn’t finish there. Sophie, clearly just as funny and imaginative as her father had said, then responded with her own report card for her father.

From this, it’s clear to see that Sophie doesn’t need A* grades at school to prove that she is a truly remarkable person!
