Dad Teaches Online Trolls A Lesson After His 14-Year-Old Daughter’s Suicide

Bullying is nothing new, but with the rise of social media, it has changed its form dramatically. In the modern world, bullies no longer need to have the audacity to attack their victims in real life, all they have to do to senselessly harass them is sit behind a keyboard.

Before social media, bullying was observable, and teachers, parents and other children were able to get victims the help they needed. Now, it’s a lot harder to detect, and, because the internet can be accessed anywhere and at any time, victims can be abused constantly.

One recent victim of online bullying was 14-year-old Amy Everett, better known as Dolly.

Unbeknownst to her family, the teenager, from Katherine, Australia, had been subject to incessant online bullying which caused her to take her life on the 3rd of January. Her face itself is a famous one, having modeled for the iconic Australian hat maker Akubra as a child.

Horrified that Dolly was unable to reach out for help, her father, Tick Everett, decided to each his daughter’s bullies a lesson that they would never forget.

In the days following Dolly’s suicide, Tick had remained quiet on social media. Simply changing his photographs to touching pictures of him and his children in happier times. But on January the 7th, he finally spoke out about Dolly’s suicide.

“This week has been an example of how social media should be used, it has also been an example of how it shouldn’t be,” he wrote. “There are so many kind words that I have not yet replied to, so instead of wearing out another screen or keyboard I would like to offer my thanks in one big message.”

This big message, however, was primarily addressed to those who had tormented his beloved daughter.
