Conor McGregor Betrayed By Sparring Partner Just Days Before Mayweather Mega-Bout

The labyrinthine story of Conor McGregor’s proposed bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. ran for months on end.

Mayweather, a master of the will-they-won’t-they narrative that has served him so well over the course of his lucrative undefeated career in boxing, pulled the strings perfectly along with McGregor, whipping up fans into a veritable frenzy with a perfectly executed tale months in the making.

Every time we thought the pair were set to announce the fight, another road block or denial would be issued from one side or the other, and just when it seemed as though the bout was in danger of being derailed for good by Dana White, reports emerged suggesting that terms had finally been agreed.

The hype-inducing narrative is far from over, though. Indeed, what appeared to many as a carefully orchestrated series of press events sought to add further drama and intrigue to proceedings. The bout is set to prove one of the most lucrative of all time, with many anticipating the shattering of pay-per-view records, but despite this, boxing aficionados have largely greeted the fight with little more than an upturned nose and a derisive snort.

This is chiefly due to McGregor’s distinct lack of boxing experience; many a pundit have pointed out that superb boxers have failed to land a telling glove on Mayweather, so what chance does a UFC fighter have of bettering their efforts?

According to McGregor himself, quite a good one, even if few share his optimism.

Perhaps his lack of experience in the boxing ring has fuelled the many rumours over his various encounters with sparring partners in recent weeks. It seems that one, Paulie Malignaggi, has grown tired of the chatter, after a photograph of him on the canvas with McGregor standing over him appears to have rubbed up the former welterweight boxer the wrong way.
