10 Jul Charlie Gard’s Case Gets Sent Back To The High Court With New Evidence
Earlier this year, a court ruling stated that a baby’s life support could be removed – despite the fervent wishes of his devastated parents. Charlie Gard, who is now 11 months old, is in the latter stages of a rare genetic condition known as mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, unwittingly inherited from parents Chris Gard and Connie Yates, who come from Bedfont in west London.
The ruling saw Charlie’s dilemma garner widespread attention, and before long, the likes of the Pope and US President Donald Trump both weighed in on the dying baby’s plight. Now, his case has been sent back to the high court after new data from foreign healthcare establishments showed the existence of an experimental treatment that has produced “dramatic clinical improvements” elsewhere.
