Centuries-Old Church Abandoned Until Couple Transform It Into Stunning Family Home

If you’re thinking about moving or just like those home renovation shows on television, then you’ll love this article! One couple has made an incredible home for themselves in an abandoned church!

The St. Nicholas Church was built in 1792 but was deconsecrated in the 1980s and has sat abandoned ever since. It is located on a plot of land in Kyloe, Northumberland, which is in northern England. The yard may be filled with headstones, but inside is nothing short of spectacular.

A couple spotted the old church, fell in love with it, and decided to gamble their live savings restoring some of its key features and turning it into a family home. This involved jobs which included repairing the vaulted ceilings and original stained glass windows.

The exterior of the church was perfectly restored to how it was in 1972 except for a row of skylights running the length of the roof. The inside, however, is a different matter. The couple wanted to make the church their home, so they had to adapt the interior to a functional living space.

The couple tried to reuse as much as they could from the church, saving the original seating and refinishing it to place throughout their new home. Many of the church’s fixtures and reclaimed wood can be seen in the space.
