Cambridge University is one of the most notoriously difficult universities to gain entrance to in the world.

A dizzying array of hurdles stand in the path of those academically gifted few who covet a place at one of the finest learning institutions on the planet. Certainly, a devil may care attitude and a blasé recklessness towards examinations are not going to endear anyone to the admissions officers at any such university, which, sadly, counted me out of the running long before I might have ever meditated on the notion of attending.

In short, one must display considerable intellectual acumen, pass exams with flying colours, and take part in a startling array of extra-curricular activities to even be in with a shot of gaining an interview, it would appear.

For 20-year-old Courtney Boateng, then, the suggestion that she might have gained a place at Cambridge University due to their need to fill a “quota” is incredibly offensive and, clearly, entirely ignorant. In fact, the 20-year-old has been explaining just how wrong such presumptions are, in an eloquent and widely shared Twitter thread, which provides the perfect riposte to her detractors.
