The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip, was last night admitted to hospital.

He is being treated for an infection that has arisen from a pre-existing condition, reports the BBC.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Phillip has been admitted to hospital, describing the decision as “a precautionary measure”.

The Metro further states that The Duke of Edinburgh “is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot.”

It is thought that the Prince of Wales will now accompany the Queen to the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday.
