You never know what you will encounter during the most mundane of activities. Take your weekly trip to the grocery store, for instance, you might think it an ordinary, everyday undertaking but that might not always be the case.

Even in seemingly uneventful settings such as the grocery store, you could be about to witness something truly insane. And that’s exactly what shoppers in an unidentified grocery store experienced…

Watch the outrageous moment a boyfriend uses a leash to walk his girlfriend, who is wearing a muzzle, around a grocery store while other shoppers look on in disgust:

The girlfriend in question can be seen clad in a white summer dress and a pair of high heels and it is believed that the short video was filmed somewhere in the US.

Initially, it wasn’t clear whether or not the clip was a prank but then it emerged that the uploader was a customer who felt compelled to share the bizarre footage. The customer clearly couldn’t decide if what she was seeing was hilarious or utterly appalling. So she followed the pair around the store and filmed it on her camera.

“That’s got to be a prank, you know you’re going to get videoed in this store,” she can be heard saying in the short clip.

She then laughs and refers to the incident as “hilarious” but later appears to retract those thoughts, commenting, “That is so humiliating”.

Most of the other customers in the store continue shopping,  as the man, dressed in a red vest, a pair of jeans and a baseball cap, wanders around the store with his leashed girlfriend in tow.

Something that was picked up on by viewers of the unusual clip was that they didn’t appear to be looking to buy anything at the store as they didn’t have a shopping cart or a basket.

The footage has since been shared on YouTube and has received thousands of views. Naturally, it has divided opinion with some people finding it amusing and others deeming it dehumanizing.

One commenter wrote: “How sad. Sad for the girl and her lack of self-worth. Sad that a female is filming that and laughing. Sad that guy doesn’t value himself nor others.”

Another had this to say: “This is a trend that is so out of control, our children have no role models because this generation is lost!”

While it is easy to get swept up in the controversy that surrounds content of this nature, we should also bear in mind that those involved in the video may simply have been doing it to get attention. I mean, it’s the perfect way to rile people on the internet these days…
