Despite what they may say, being a celebrity isn’t easy. I mean, yes, it may look idyllic to those who work monotonous shifts in dead-end jobs on the minimum wage, but the reality isn’t quite as glamorous as it may seem.

For example, how would you like to have every element of your life scrutinized by the mass media? Would you really enjoy being followed by the paparazzi whilst you run errands in your slacks? Do you dream of having your private life splashed across the front page of gossip magazines with a high-resolution photograph of your haggard face?

Being a celebrity is, I assume, totally exhausting and quite soul destroying. If you need evidence of this, look no further than Britney Spears’ iconic 2007 meltdown, in which she saved off her iconic blonde locks and vandalized a paparazzi vehicle with an umbrella.

It has been over a decade since that infamous incident and yet few things have changed. In fact, thanks to the internet and in part the Kardashians, the paparazzi’s thirst for exclusive footage has only intensified.

As a result, celebrities are no longer just required to be talented, they also need to be proficient at marketing themselves and presenting themselves for the paparazzi.

One star who has these qualities is Ariana Grande. The 25-year-old singing sensation has barely spent a day out of the headlines this year, which is predominantly the result of her whirlwind romance with Saturday Night Live star, Pete Davidson.

For Grande, 2018 was a fresh start after a turbulent year. The pint-sized pop star’s life was turned upside down in May 2017 when 22 of her fans were mercilessly killed by a suicide bomber during her Dangerous Woman tour in Manchester, England.

Grande was unsurprisingly traumatized by the terror attack. However, as we all know, in the entertainment industry the show must go on, with Grande promising her fans a new album in 2018.

But first, she broke up with her long-term boyfriend, Mac Miller. News of their split hit the headlines in May 2018, with Miller being arrested for driving under the influence a few days later.

A week later, Grande was linked to comedian Pete Davidson. However, the rumors about the couple were deemed false on account of the fact that Davidson was believed to still be in a relationship with Cazzie David, his girlfriend of two years.

Grande and Davidson are believed to have first met when Grande hosted an episode of SNL in 2016. The duo appeared alongside each other for mere moments on the famous stage, making it impossible to detect a hint of any romance.

However, by the middle of May 2018, there was no doubting that the pair were officially together when they both took to Instagram to confirm their relationship. Since then, nothing has been the same.

Within the first fortnight of their romance, both Grande and Davidson got tattoo tributes to one another and by June 20, Davidson confirmed that the pair were engaged to be married.

Davidson proposed to the pop princess with an enormous engagement ring, which the star has been wearing proudly ever since. However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed that the ring isn’t the only thing she has been wearing on her engagement finger in recent weeks.

Subtly inked above Grande’s eye-catching rock is a single word in a flamboyant font. The tiny tattoo has left Ariana’s fans arguing over on Instagram, with everyone divided firmly into two camps: those who believe it reads “Pete” and those who think it says “Arte”.

Of course, both theories would make perfect sense given that “Arte” means “art” in Italian, and Grande is, of course, of Italian descent. And, well, Pete is the name of her husband-to-be and the tattoo is on her engagement finger.

Then, there are those who believe that the word may be a combination of Ariana and Pete’s names.

A conclusion is yet to be reached and, with Grande and Davidson’s current social media hiatus, it could be quite a long time before we get confirmation on what the mysterious inking actually means…
