04 Jun Apple Have Successfully Sued Samsung For $539 Million
If you’ve been starting to think that all smartphones are the same, then you might be right.
While there may be neverending brands and models to choose from, it turns out that they may just be copies of one another. Case in point: Samsung was just successfully sued by Apple for copying their design features.
It’s sort of been an open secret that tech companies have been borrowing from one another in order to keep relevant and remain on top, but recently Apple had enough of others taking their ideas and sued Samsung to the tune of $539 million dollars.
Apple claimed the South Korean tech giant copied their iPhone design and technology and, well, looking at the two phones side by side there is a striking resemblance. Not only that but anyone who’s used phones from both companies known they are fairly similar.
A jury deliberated for five days on the case before ruling in Apple’s favor. Samsung, however, is still protesting the ruling, saying that it goes against a previous Supreme Court ruling, which stated that Apple couldn’t claim the iPhone’s appearance as its own.
All of this legal drama began back in 2011 when Apple sued Samsung for ripping off their iPhone handsets and were awarded $1 billion dollars. Then, an appeal court decided Apple couldn’t lay claim to the iPhone and its accessories appearance after all.
