31 Aug Anorexic Teen Weighed Just 70lbs Before She Was Forced To Dramatically Change Her Life
Anorexia is thought to affect nearly three million people across the globe. The eating disorder takes control of the lives of those it effects, often with catastrophic consequences. Vera Schulz knows this only too well, for she was nearly a victim of the disorder.
And I say “nearly” because fortunately, Vera managed to find something else to channel her energy in to, which ultimately saved her life. Her story may just be the most inspiring thing you’ll read today…
The brave teenager, who has now overcome her battle with the disorder, hit a critical weight in 2014. At just 70 lbs (33 kg) she was dangerously underweight. Her body was slowly beginning to shut down, forcing her reconsider the way she lived. “There comes a time when it is necessary to change everything, absolutely everything,” she writes on her Instagram page. Change is just what she did…
The 18-year-old from Russia fainted frequently due to lack of energy and was struggling to complete her school work. “I was suffering from a lack of air, I was regularly fainting. Back in the day, I lived on the fifth floor, and I needed about an hour to get up there, as there was no lift,” she said.
“Did I notice that I’m starting to look terrible? Yes. But the goal was exactly this,” she explains on Instagram, “I wanted to weigh 35kg, or rather, I was knocked into the head by various communities dedicated to anorexia on social networks.”
“You will die at this weight … but this was ignored. But still no one is to blame but myself,” she writes.
Her family didn’t notice how sinister her weight was becoming, which allowed Vera’s weight to plummet to dangerously low. Despite her skeletal frame, Vera’s family didn’t notice anything was wrong. But, Vera did. She knew she needed to make a dramatic change, but it wasn’t going to be easy.
