Adele has cemented her place as one of the finest singer/songwriters of her generation.

The maturation of her music has been self-evident; as the album titles reflected her age, so too did the music that they contained, culminating in the singer becoming one of the most popular artists performing in the world today.

In a world of transience and alteration, in which landscapes can shift in the blink of an eye, pop stars come and go with a startling regularity. Some would attribute the fleeting nature of such singers to the increasingly manufactured status of many of today’s stars, made by TV talent shows that create a coruscating heat so transient and ephemeral that often the winners are old news the day after their big victory.

It is telling, therefore, that those musicians that survive the early tempest and its denouement without being rendered obscure are typically those with – to put it delicately – a little more substance.

Adele is certainly one such performer. A talented songwriter blessed with an extraordinary voice to boot, Adele has transcended genre to become almost universally adored, her blend of sultry, soul inflected pop music resonating with fans all over the world. Those same fans would be the first to tell you that an Adele live concert is something akin to a religious experience, such is the outpouring of emotion that presumably takes place. Unfortunately, though, it would appear that the days of those concerts are numbered.
