31 Aug A Computer Has Written The Last ‘Game Of Thrones’ Book And Things Get Very, Very Weird
Writing a novel is an arduous, time-consuming process – especially if you’re a renowned author with a lot of fans to please. There are currently seven books in George R. R. Martin’s critically acclaimed series A Song of Ice and Fire, but the seventh book, The Winds of Winter, is still “months away” from completion.
The Winds of Winter is due to be released in 2018, however, computer engineer Zack Thoutt simply couldn’t wait any longer for the next instalment in the series and decided to make a “long short-term memory neural network” to finish the next book – AKA a computer program that has some knowledge of what’s already gone down.
Whilst Zack Thoutt’s brainchild has some upsides – like bringing Ned Stark back from the dead – the result of an artificially created A Song of Ice and Fire book is weird to say the least. There are currently only five chapters of it “written”, and once you’ve read an extract, I think you’ll agree that no more should be created…
