MMA Fighter Disqualified After Doing A Victory Front Flip Off His KO’d Opponent’s Back

Since big names like Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor put MMA fighting on the mainstream map, people around the world have come to associate the sport with violence. For those watching, the high-intensity combat sport induces a feeling of immense discomfort as the opponents lash out at one another in a bid for victory.

It’s normal to see competitors pull savage moves in the ring, as that’s part of the sport’s territory. However, with modern day health and safety thrown into the mix, competitors are marginally restrained with what they can do. The aim of this is to protect their opponent from serious injury and as a result, the referee takes any misconduct very seriously.

So when Drew Chatman used his opponent’s limp body as a springboard to perform front flip to celebrate his victory, the ref was understandably furious.

As his opponent, Irvins Ayala, lies lifelessly on the Octagon floor, having appeared to have been knocked out thanks to a well-placed knee strike to the head, Chatman takes his chance to celebrate. Within a split second, he jumps upon Ayala’s back before using it as a surface for a somersault.

Unable to act quick enough, the referee watches in disbelief. However, he makes sure to reprimand Chatman immediately after he (fails to) land the flip. As a result of his arrogant actions, Chatman found himself disqualified and rather humiliated.

Whilst rules in MMA fighting are loose, there is apparently a clause that condemns those who use their opponent’s body as a trampoline.
