23 Mar Man Moves Into New Home To Find Starving Dog Chained Up In Basement, The Dog’s Reaction Says It All

It is an unfortunate fact that dogs are abandoned on a daily basis. There are simply far too many pet owners who lack the compassion or capability to care for animals.

This particular story occurred in St. Louis when a new homeowner discovered that somebody had abandoned a beautiful pit bull after they found the animal chained up and left to starve.

Upsettingly, the pooch was close to dying of hunger as the person who abandoned her had left absolutely no food or water.

“I just bought a house and there is a pit bull chained up in the basement,” the new owner of the house told the staff at Stray Rescue of St. Louis. “I’m not sure how long it’s been down there.”

The case was urgent, so volunteers at the organization rushed to the house in order to rescue the starving dog, who was thrilled to be saved from what we can only imagine must have been a horrific nightmare.

“When we opened the door to the basement and shined our flashlight down, we saw a wagging tail,” Natalie Thomson, the organization’s communications director, told The Dodo. “She was nearly choking herself as she was so excited to see us. When we freed her, she couldn’t stop jumping up and down and giving hugs.”

“Her personality is completely adorable,” Thomson added. “She loves everyone she meets and craves attention. She makes sure she is not ignored! She’s an energetic and very affectionate pup! She is so happy all the time.”

It turns out the dog had been abandoned by an unidentified squatter who had been occupying the property before the new owners moved in.

It’s unbelievable that anyone could be callous enough to deliberately leave a dog to die, but luckily, there are organizations equipped to rescue and ensure that abandoned animals receive the care they need.
