Jim Carrey Is Cleared In Wrongful Death Lawsuit Launched By His Ex-Girlfriend’s Family After Her Suicide

Jim Carrey is known as one of Hollywood’s funniest men, but for the past two years, the veteran comic has not been laughing. In 2015, Carrey’s life was turned upside down when his on-off again girlfriend of three years, Cathriona White, committed suicide.

The 30-year-old makeup artist, who had a history of depression, used a cocktail of prescription pills to end her life on September 28, 2015. Her body was discovered in her Los Angeles home next to four prescription pill bottles, three of which were written out to Carrey via an alias, TMZ reported.

Her death instantly became front-page news after it was alleged that Carrey was responsible in some part for the tragedy.

Embarrassingly for Carrey, every detail of his relationship to the Irish-born stylist became available to the masses, including an intimate text exchange in which White accused Carrey of giving her a sexually transmitted disease.

The humiliating details came after White’s estranged husband Mark Burton, whom she’d been married to from 2013 until her death, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Carrey, citing that the Dumb and Dumber star used his “immense wealth and celebrity status” to illegally obtain and distribute the prescription pills used in her death.

White married Burton, a cameraman based in Los Angeles, in 2013, before going back to Carrey. It is said that she intended to file for divorce, but never finalized the documentation.
