19 Jan The Unpleasant Side-Effect Of Not Having Sex That Could Be Harming Your Vagina
Sex is a risky business. Even if you’re in a monogamous relationship and both you and your partner are certified STI free, it can lead to pregnancy, and, depending on what your bedroom activities involve, injuries (although, admittedly, the latter is rare).
If you absolutely want to avoid the downsides of sex, like STIs and unwanted pregnancy, abstinence is recommended as the best course of action.
However, it turns out that abstaining from sex, or simply not having enough kinky time, can actually harm your vagina.
This isn’t the best news to start 2018 with.
After all, the threat of nuclear annihilation is already at its highest since the Cold War, teenagers are killing themselves by eating detergent, and the President of the United States’ biggest concern is silencing porn stars from talking about his lack of sexual prowess.
So how can a lack of sex harm your vagina? Well, it has the potential to cause a condition known as vaginal atrophy. This a common and treatable ailment that occurs when the walls of the vagina thin because of a lack of stimulation.
But it’s not just women who don’t get much kinky time who are susceptible to this condition, Body + Soul reports. Those who are going through the menopause are also at risk because they have lower levels of estrogen in their bodies.
Anyone who has been treated for breast cancer also has a higher chance of developing vaginal atrophy.
