The Nine Foods Khloé Kardashian Swears Upon During Her Pregnancy

Discovering you’re pregnant can be a very exciting time, especially if you’ve been trying for a while. It can also be quite nervewracking. Many first-time moms-to-be can have a lot of questions, and with a baby on board, it may no longer be safe to fall back on old eating habits for comfort.

After all, what Mom eats, baby eats, so trying to come up with a healthy diet plan amongst crazy cravings and morning sickness can cause quite the conundrum.

It’s something Khloé Kardashian is dealing with right now, but luckily for her, she’s got a nutritionist, Dr. Philip Goglia, on her team to help her through her first pregnancy. Luckily for everyone else, Khloé is sharing her nutritionist’s tips.

Here are the nine foods she swears upon during her pregnancy:

1. Fatty Fish

Everyone knows most fish is off the menu when pregnant. Sushi runs the risk of carrying parasites, and tuna is way too high in mercury. However, Dr. Goglia recommends adding one of the fatty fish into your diet, such as salmon, black cod, arctic char, or sea bass.

The Omega-3 fatty acid in the fish help with baby’s brain and tissue development. It’s also good for Mom, says Khloé: “You increase your intake of omega fatty acids, which helps with deeper sleep, increased growth-hormone release and a reduction of inflammation.”

2. Single Ingredient Starches

It’s important to stay active while pregnant, which means every mom-to-be needs their carbohydrates for fuel. Khloé loves her workouts and wants to stay fit during her pregnancy, which means she’ll need the healthiest and most efficient carbs in her diet.

“These are your energy-source friends, many of which have anti-inflammatory benefits as well,” Khloé says of the single ingredient starches in her diet. These include potatoes, brown rice, yams, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, oat flakes, quinoa, and lentils.

3. Lean Red Meat

Another trick Khloé uses to rev up her energy for workouts while pregnant is to eat lean red meat, especially in the evening. These cuts of beef or pork will usually have loin or round in the name and pack an energy punch that will hit early the next morning.

“Red meat is also a source of iron that will increase hematocrit levels (the percentage of red blood cells in your blood), resulting in improved endurance capacity for your cardio training sessions,” she says.

Even if you’re not super into working out, pregnancy can cause a lot of tiredness. If you’d like another energy boosting tip, check out number 4 to see what Khloé recommends for veggies!
