09 Jan Grandmother Whose MELTING Face Made Her Go Blind Refuses Surgery

A 63-year-old grandmother from Thailand suffers from a medical condition that gives her face the appearance that it is melting. The condition has already caused her to lose her eyesight and has distorted her face so badly that her mouth and nose look like they are hanging off of it.

The grandmother, named Wiang Boonmee, claims she has been suffering from the strange and unusual growths on her face since she was a child and refuses to get surgery to attempt to correct the condition out of fear she will die on the operating table.

Although she has suffered for decades and has lost her sight, Ms. Boonmee has recently moved to Bangkok to sell trinkets and flowers on the street. It is how she has earned her own living and remained independent.

However, Ms. Boonmee previously lived in rural Surin where residents were accustomed to her appearance. Now in bustling Bangkok, she has received a lot of attention. Medics were contacted by passers-by who requested assistance for her.
