Everyone has heard the name Sylvester Stallone. He’s one of the most iconic action stars in the history of cinema, and most people know him for playing boxer Rocky Balboa and Vietnam War veteran John Rambo.

But his talents certainly aren’t just limited to his portrayals of his characters. No siree! He is also a critically acclaimed writer, director, and producer.

The veteran actor was born Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, on July 6, 1946. He was raised in Washington, D.C. but went to college in Florida before moving back to New York City.

And while you may know Stallone as a successful actor now, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Rocky actor. In the early 70s, a young Stallone struggled to support himself financially to the extent that he found himself sleeping in a bus terminal.

In a bid to make a little money, Stallone agreed to take a role in a softcore X-rated movie.

Then just a few years later he became an international superstar as the writer and star of the 1976 movie Rocky.

At the time, the mere notion that the movie would become a box office hit would have been almost unthinkable. I mean, the star was seemingly an amateur writer and actor and its makers had an extremely small budget to work with.

Ultimately, the movie became the highest-grossing movie of 1976 with an enviable three Oscars to its name.

Following the movie’s unexpected success, Stallone knew he was on to a winner and so went on to write four more sequels, and the fifth was written by another screenwriter.

And, as is common in Hollywood, Stallone has remarried a couple of times in his life. In total, he has had three marriages resulting in five beautiful children. Tragically, however, his eldest son, Sage, passed away back in 2012.

His three youngest children, all daughters, are now grown up and are professional models. Their names are Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet and they have managed to gain a huge amount of success in their own rights.

But before they were born, he had two children, Sage and Seargeoh, with his first wife, Sasha Czack, whom he married in 1974.

Then in 1985, he married Brigitte Nielsen but the married only lasted two years.

More than a decade later in 1997, Stallone got married a third time to Jennifer Flavin.
